Sustainability & ESG

Energy That Serves People and Planet

Cascadia Energy is committed to accelerating the clean energy transition across Southern Africa — one megawatt at a time. Sustainability is not a reporting obligation. It is the foundation of our business model.

Our Approach

Our Approach to Sustainability

At Cascadia Energy, sustainability is not a reporting obligation — it is the foundation of our business model. The energy deficit across Southern Africa is both a commercial opportunity and a human challenge. We believe these two realities are inseparable.

Every supply agreement we structure, every trade we execute and every partnership we build is evaluated against its long-term impact on people, communities and the environment. We are building a business that creates value across all three dimensions — financial, social and environmental.

Our sustainability framework is aligned with international standards including the IFC Performance Standards, the Equator Principles, the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

Clean Energy Transition

We prioritise renewable and low-carbon energy sources in our supply portfolio — hydro, solar and wind — and actively support the development of new renewable capacity across the SAPP region. Our project pipeline is 100% renewable.

Rural Electrification

Access to electricity transforms lives. We work with development partners, rural electrification agencies and mini-grid developers to extend energy access to underserved communities across Zambia and the region.

Climate Resilience

Southern Africa's hydro-dependent grid is acutely vulnerable to climate change. We build supply diversity and storage solutions that reduce dependence on rainfall and protect against drought-driven deficits.

Local Employment & Skills

We invest in Zambian and regional talent — building the technical, commercial and regulatory expertise that the energy sector needs to grow sustainably. We target 80% local employment across all operations.

Transparent Governance

We operate to international ESG standards, publish transparent reporting aligned with GRI and TCFD frameworks, and maintain zero tolerance for corruption, bribery and anti-competitive conduct.

Community Investment

A portion of our commercial returns is directed to community development programmes in the areas where we operate — schools, health facilities, clean water infrastructure and vocational training.

Technology Portfolio

Our Clean Energy Technology Mix

Technology-agnostic. Resource-led. Commercially disciplined.

Cascadia Energy evaluates the full spectrum of clean energy technologies against the specific resource endowment, grid needs and commercial conditions of each Southern African market. Our portfolio is built on proven technologies today, with a clear pathway into emerging technologies as they reach commercial maturity.

Active Pipeline

Utility-scale and distributed solar photovoltaic — the lowest-cost new-build technology in Southern Africa at $0.03–0.05/kWh LCOE.

HydropowerRenewable
Active Offtake

Large hydro offtake, run-of-river development and pumped storage — the backbone of the SAPP grid and Cascadia's supply portfolio.

Battery Storage (BESS)Storage

Grid-scale lithium-ion battery energy storage for frequency regulation, peak shaving and renewable integration services.

Wind EnergyRenewable
Evaluating

Onshore wind in high-resource corridors across Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe — complementing solar with different generation profiles.

Biomass & BioenergyRenewable
Evaluating

Sustainably managed agricultural and forestry biomass providing dispatchable firm power — complementing variable solar and wind.

Green HydrogenEmerging
Origination

Green hydrogen production co-located with solar assets, targeting industrial off-takers and export via green ammonia conversion.

GeothermalRenewable
Origination

East African Rift System geothermal resources offering 24/7 firm baseload power with capacity factors above 90%.

Concentrated Solar PowerRenewable
Monitoring

CSP with thermal storage providing dispatchable solar generation — particularly relevant for peak demand management.

Climate Strategy

Climate & GHG Strategy

Aligned with the Paris Agreement and Africa's Just Transition

Cascadia Energy's climate strategy is built on three pillars: decarbonising our supply portfolio, investing in renewable generation and storage, and supporting the just transition across the communities we serve.

We measure and report our Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions annually, aligned with the GHG Protocol. Our 2040 net zero target covers all operational emissions, with a pathway to address Scope 3 supply chain emissions through our renewable-first sourcing strategy.

Scope 1
Net Zero by 2035

Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources (offices, vehicles, generators)

Scope 2
100% renewable by 2028

Indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heat and steam

Scope 3
80% reduction by 2040

All other indirect emissions across the value chain, including supply portfolio
